Building Futures: Communities Invited to Explore Careers in Carpentry This Labor Day

Labor Day is a time to celebrate and honor American workers and the Central Midwest Carpenters Union (CMRCC), representing over 37,000 professional tradespeople in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, hopes to recruit the next generation of workers interested in building the communities they live in.

The CMRCC training centers in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio will host open house events for students and people of all ages interested in exploring exciting careers in carpentry. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet current apprentices, instructors and contractors.
  • Get a personal tour of the training center and participate in hands-on activities.
  • Learn about the diverse career paths available in the skilled trades.

Military Outreach Makes Big Impact

Outreach Specialist with the Central Midwest Carpenters, Gavin Gottfried, along with three others across the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC), were given an award for the unwavering support that they have provided to the Military Veterans Program (MVP). They were presented a Flag of Valor by Executive Director of the UBC Millwright/Pile Driver Labor Management, Mark Benacquisto, at the UBC Millwright Leadership Conference held at the Carpenters’ International Training Center in Las Vegas.

Ohio’s Newest Journey-Level Carpenters: Class of 2025

COLUMBUS, OH — On February 15th, 2025, the Central Midwest Carpenters Union celebrated 354 apprentices in Ohio who put in the hours, learned their trade, and earned their spot as journey-level members. They marked the occasion with friends, family, and the union brothers and sisters who had their backs along the way.

A highlight from the evening included the presentation of camo-colored hardhats to the graduating veteran, active, and reserve status apprentices in the United States Armed Forces. This segment highlights the Helmets to Hardhats program that offers those service members direct-entry into the construction trades. Attendees also heard from speakers including Ohio Carpenters’ Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program’s Director of Education Dan Sustin, graduate speaker Seth Hiser, and Central Midwest Carpenters Executive Secretary-Treasurer Matt McGriff. 2023 Open House Season

The Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters Open House season is officially complete. We had record-breaking attendance at nearly every training center – and shattered our total attendance records. Through September and October, we saw over 7,800 high schoolers, community leaders, and more in our training centers in Warsaw, Merrillville, Louisville, Greenwood, Newburgh, Terre Haute, Grayson, Richfield, Columbus, Monroe, and Rossford. IKORCC Grayson Training Center Breaks Ground on Expansion

Grayson, KY— With the growing need for construction workers in and around Kentucky, the IKORCC Joint Apprenticeship and Training Fund is expanding their Grayson Kentucky training facility.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 18, 2023, at the Carpenter’s Union Training Center at 574 Carpenters Way, Grayson, KY 41143 to launch the expansion. The event hosted apprentices, state and local officials, keynote speaker Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, local business owners, and IKORCC labor representatives.

“Today is an investment in creating more high skilled workers….it’s also a 5 million dollar investment in Grayson Kentucky.,” Governor Beshear told the crowd of nearly 110 attendees. Read more
