IKORCC Grayson Training Center Breaks Ground on Expansion

Grayson, KY— With the growing need for construction workers in and around Kentucky, the IKORCC Joint Apprenticeship and Training Fund is expanding their Grayson Kentucky training facility.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 18, 2023, at the Carpenter’s Union Training Center at 574 Carpenters Way, Grayson, KY 41143 to launch the expansion. The event hosted apprentices, state and local officials, keynote speaker Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, local business owners, and IKORCC labor representatives.

“Today is an investment in creating more high skilled workers….it’s also a 5 million dollar investment in Grayson Kentucky.,” Governor Beshear told the crowd of nearly 110 attendees.

“As you look at all these biggest, best, newest [projects], you’re gonna know that you literally had a hand in building it. And that it’s your craftsmanship that’s moving this state, this region, and this country forward,” Beshear said.

“You folks are literally helping us build the future of our state right now, ” Governor Beshear said of the regional council.

The 9,600-square-foot facility has six welding booths offering both SMAW and MIG welders. The wood training floor offers an area for metal stud/drywall projects, concrete formwork, Transit, Level, and an ICRA mockup to teach construction practices for occupied healthcare facilities. This expansion includes a 14,000-square-foot addition, four new classrooms, an indoor overhead crane for certification courses, and 16 new welding booths.

“We’re excited about this event and for the growth, our Grayson Campus has seen. In the six years that the Grayson Campus has been open, the apprenticeship numbers have grown by nearly 800%. We have such strong partnerships with area schools, we have to expand to keep up with the demand for our curriculum and skilled apprentices”, Indiana and Kentucky’s Joint Apprenticeship Director of Education Adam Fedak said of the event.
