The Central Midwest Carpenters is made up of over 37,000 members who share more than a trade… they share a strong sense of community and brotherhood. Those bonds are built through years of training, working side by side, and standing together to protect workers’ rights. Our strength comes from members who lead with integrity, champion inclusivity, and leave a lasting mark on both our organization and the people around them. Each year, we recognize one member who exemplifies these values, and few have done so more completely than Don Sherry. Leer más

In 2020, the unimaginable happened to one of our brothers from Local 171, David Sweeney: he lost his son in a violent home invasion. After this happened, David wanted to pour into his community and build a playground in his son’s honor and memory. Local 171’s MAC committee sprang into action to build and raffle a full swing set to donate proceeds to the park. Carpenters Caring also reached out to make a donation, but the park was still a way from being fully funded and approved by the city. Leer más

The construction industry is known for its resilience, hard work, and determination. Every day, construction workers help build the roads we travel on, the schools our children attend, and the homes we live in. Yet behind the steel, concrete, and machinery, there is a growing issue that often goes unnoticed: mental health.

In May 2026, members, contractors, partners, and friends of the Central Midwest Carpenters gathered for the annual Carpenters Caring Golf Outing. While the day provided an opportunity to connect with fellow members, United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) leadership, and industry partners on the course, the event was about much more than golf. Its mission was to raise funds that help support union families when they need it most.
Held at Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Indiana, this year’s outing saw an incredible show of support. Every sponsorship opportunity sold out, and dozens of additional sponsors stepped up to contribute to the cause. Thanks to their generosity, the event raised critical funds for the Carpenters Caring Fund, which provides year-round assistance to members and their families facing hardship, loss, or unexpected tragedy.
We’re excited to announce the recipients of the 2026 Central Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters Scholarship Program!
Forty outstanding students have each been awarded a $1,000 scholarship, which can be applied toward tuition, room and board, or books at their chosen college or trade school.
As in past years, twenty recipients were selected based on academic excellence, including high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores. The other twenty were chosen through a random drawing, ensuring opportunity and access for all eligible applicants.
