Safety Protocols for Training Centers Reopening

Training centers in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio are scheduled to reopen for classes starting Monday, May 4th, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the safety of our staff and apprentices, visitors can expect to see enhanced safety protocols in all of our training centers to comply with CDC guidelines.

The safety of our apprentices and staff continues to be a top priority. Here are some of the steps we are taking during this time:

  1. All staff & apprentices will be required to have their temperature taken and answer COVID-19 screening questions before entering the building.
  2. Those asking screening questions and taking temperatures will wear gloves, a mask, and safety glasses or a face shield.
  3. Each individual is required to use hand sanitizer upon entry to our buildings.
  4. Staff & apprentices will be given masks to wear inside the building.
  5. No food or drink is allowed in the building.
  6. No tobacco use of any kind will be permitted unless it is in an individual’s vehicle during a sanctioned break.
  7. Break areas will be closed to adhere to social distancing recommendations.
  8. All apprentices will take the COVID-19 Preparedness Course first thing Monday morning.
  9. Class size will be limited to nine individuals and one instructor.
  10. Apprentices will have no contact with administrative assistants, the instructor will act as an intermediary for any questions
  11.  All interior doors will be propped open when possible.
  12. Hallways will have HEPA machines running constantly to purify the air, when possible.
  13. Classrooms will be sanitized at the end of each day.
  14. Apprentices will have hand washing/sanitizing opportunities at regular intervals.
  15. No more than two apprentices will enter the restroom at one time.
  16. Break times will be staggered.
  17. Tools should be sanitized as needed and not shared.
  18. Training centers will have posted information about COVID-19 safety.
  19. Any apprentice working outside our Council may be required to quarantine for 14 days at home prior to attending class. Their absence will be excused and classes rescheduled. (There are some exceptions to this particular protocol, as it varies greatly from state to state. If you or anyone you know needs further information on this or any other protocol, please contact the Training Center you attend for classes.)
  20. If you feel sick you should stay home and contact the training center.

We will continue to update our safety protocols in accordance with recommendations from the CDC and individual state governors. We will update this article and notify the apprentices should anything change.
