BUILDING PATHWAYS
Central Midwest Carpenters’ outreach programs and partnerships are designed to create pathways into the skilled trades for everyone – regardless of background, experience, or skill level. Whether you’re a veteran transitioning to civilian life, a woman breaking into a new field, or someone ready for a career change, there’s a place for you here.
We’re actively working to remove barriers and make union careers more accessible, providing the training, support, and connections needed to succeed. Together, we’re not just building futures – we’re building the future of America.
BRIDGING MINDS
The Bridging Minds program focuses on recruiting, organizing, and building opportunity for all. Whether you’re new to the workforce, changing careers, looking to grow your career into a business, or overcoming barriers to employment, Bridging Minds is here to help you succeed. We know there’s a lot of work to be done – and we’re ready to do it. That’s why CMRCC is meeting people where they are, connecting veterans, women, minorities, and individuals of all experience levels with the training, support, and union career paths they need to join the construction industry and thrive. This is more than workforce development – it’s a movement to make the union trades stronger, more inclusive, and built for everyone.
HELMETS TO HARDHATS
You put yourself on the line for your country. And we at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters are proud to be among the first to thank you by offering a rewarding and satisfying career via the UBC Helmets to Hardhats Partnership.
Helmets to hardhats helps military service members successfully transition back into civilian life by offering them the means to secure a quality career in the construction industry. This is a federally-approved apprenticeship program, meaning you can use your Montgomery G.I. Bill benefits to supplement your income.
Two organizations – one goal: Present great career choices for those who put their lives on hold to protect their homeland. The UBC’s Helmets to Hardhats program provides our nation’s military veterans with challenging careers in carpentry and a source of security for them and their family in the form of healthcare, retirement and financial stability.
Military veterans are familiar with a structured learning environment, unpredictable weather conditions, and desire to serve the community. Based on your military occupation code, you can leverage training and work related experience during your time in the service to achieve advanced placement in our apprenticeship program. With an honorable discharge, veterans can be working on a jobsite as soon as six weeks.

The Helmets to Hardhats program helps vets get back to work quickly at the CMRCC. Because of their background in the military, veterans often have the characteristics our contractors find most desirable, including punctuality, dependability and a strong work ethic.
The veterans featured in this video exemplify all the reasons why the Carpenters Union actively seeks Helmets to Hardhats participants. Check out the stories of some of our amazing veterans & the great work they are doing building their communities.
