My Union Family

The Central Midwest Carpenters is, in its essence, is a family. We are bound together with brotherhood and sisterhood. Some members claim a deeper connection with their fellow members – having multiple generations in the CMRCC. These quotes are from a few of them who are especially appreciative of the fact that they get to carry on the legacy of being a union carpenter with their last name.

”The Union has had a large impact on my career and family life. The wages and benefits are obviously one major factor. The generations of carpenters that came before me, like my grandfather, fought hard for what we earn and it’s important to keep that up. Taking pride in our work and always doing the best work that we are capable of will continue to allow carpenters to have the same quality of life in the future.”

“I could not be prouder of my son to see him following in his grandfather’s footsteps.  Like his grandfather, I see him helping to build Greater Lafayette and making a difference for our growing community.  It amazes me to see the skill my son has developed in his craft and to manage projects and that sense of pride in what he does. “

  • Tony Roswarski, Mayor of Lafayette, IN

“My grandfather, Robert Dunn, was the first of us to join the Millwrights back in the early 1960’s when the hall was in Washington, Indiana. As a kid, my brother Jon and I grew up in the shop and learned how tools worked from an early age. Now, there are four active generations in the union. We specialize in power generation, meaning everywhere from turbines to pulverizes and everything in between.”

  • Bob Dunn, 28-year member

“My father (Don), brother (Don), nephew (Daegan), and myself are all in the Carpenters Union. Three generations of well-rounded carpenters that are building Ohio. We’ve gone from riding in the car with my dad, listening to him say ‘I built that… I built that’ after passing his previous jobsites, to working with each other – building hospitals, churches, and more that we can show in the future.”
