Building Futures: Communities Invited to Explore Careers in Carpentry This Labor Day
Labor Day is a time to celebrate and honor American workers and the Central Midwest Carpenters Union (CMRCC), representing over 37,000 professional tradespeople in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, hopes to recruit the next generation of workers interested in building the communities they live in.
The CMRCC training centers in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio will host open house events for students and people of all ages interested in exploring exciting careers in carpentry. Attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Meet current apprentices, instructors and contractors.
- Get a personal tour of the training center and participate in hands-on activities.
- Learn about the diverse career paths available in the skilled trades.
The demand for skilled construction workers in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio is surging. Large-scale infrastructure projects, commercial developments, and housing needs are creating opportunities for carpenters and opening doors for men and women looking for a career that offers hands-on experience without college debt.
“It’s a great opportunity to discover the benefits of a career in the trades such as job security, competitive wages, and the satisfaction of building and creating projects that last decades,” said Matt McGriff, executive secretary treasurer, Central Midwest Carpenters. “We have state-of-the-art training centers, and our apprentices can receive credits toward their associate’s degree.”
The most recent open house season experienced record-breaking attendance with more than 8,300 high schoolers, community leaders and more touring the 12 training centers in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
